Drunk driving arrests on the rise at UMass

The number of students arrested for operating under the influence (OUI) by the University of Massachusetts Police Department (UMPD) has more than tripled in the past five years, from 21 in 2004 to 68 in 2007. However, according to Deputy Chief Pat Archbald of UMPD, it's hard to know if more students are driving after they drink.

Veterans voice opposition to Iraq war

Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) held an event Wednesday night to voice their opposition to United States involvement in Iraq. Since its inception in 2004, IVAW has made three demands: the immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces in Iraq, reparations for the human and structural damages Iraq has suffered and full benefits, like adequate health care (including mental health) and other supports for returning servicemen and women.

First annual 5K road race to begin this weekend

The first annual 5K road race "Spring into Action" is being held tomorrow at 9 a.m. "Many of our members are usual 5K runners and currently training to run the Boston Marathon," said Alpha Phi Omega President, Alana Einhorn. "After attending many other 5K races on campus and in the area, they saw what a great success a 5K can be and were enthusiastic in attempting to organize our own.
