He has been a staff writer since fall 2006 and has covered multiple UMass sports teams, including men's basketball and men's soccer.

Joe Meloni is a senior, journalism major from Stoughton, Mass. He began working at The Daily Collegian in the fall 2006 as a field hockey beat writer in the sports section. He covered sports for The Collegian from then until spring 2008 and worked as an assistant sports editor for 2007-08 and took over as managing editor this fall. Aside from The Collegian, he has worked for the Daily Hampshire Gazette and currently covers UMass hockey for United States College Hockey Online.

Michael Sarkes is the Production Manager at The Collegian. He is a junior at UMass. He is studying both communication and history. He joined The Massachusetts Daily Collegian in late September of the 2007 fall semester. He found himself in the production field at The Collegian and that has been an inspiration toward his future goals. His favorite animal is a dog but he also like tigers, lions, jaguars, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, pandas, pelicans, zebras, owls, geese, moose and parrots. Wolves and wolverines are pretty sweet too.

Kate Olesin, a senior and native of Princeton, Mass., is the Night Supervisor and creator of the epic, 2008-2009 Style Guide for The Daily Collegian. Kate, an English and History major, started as a news staff writer in spring 2007 and was promoted to assistant news editor in fall 2007 after working at at The MetroWest Daily News in Framingham, Mass. Although Kate has a passion for journalism and reporting, her goal after graduation is to work for a publishing company with a focus on educational and academic works ' either magazine or in commercial publishing. In an attempt to achieve this goal, she has interned in the children's book department of The National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C., is currently a marketing and editorial intern at the University of Massachusetts Press, and is writing her senior thesis on the transforming publishing field due to new forms of media. Kate is also in the market for a rugged ' yet spacious and homey ' cardboard box she can use as shelter for after graduation.

Nick Bush, the Comics Editor, is one of the most hygienic staff members here at the Collegian. He enjoys long walks on the beach, and quietly sulking alone in his room, late into the night. He is working on a journalism degree here at the University of Massachusetts, but maintains hope that one day his dream of being a lion-tamer in the circus will somehow come true.

William McGuiness is the News Editor and an English/journalism double major from Fall River, Mass. In the summer of 2008 he worked at Raytheon on the Information Solutions support team. He started as the Web Editor of the Massachusetts Daily Collegian in the fall of 2008. Victor is interested in website and computer system administration, so a position at the Collegian is helping him learn the many responsibilities that come with such jobs. In his spare time Victor enjoys reinstalling Microsoft Windows and shooting zombies with NERF darts.

Kevin Koczwara, assistant arts editor, started at The Collegian with the hopes of becoming a movie reviewer. He then realized his passion for writing profiles, features and editing. He was persuaded, after one semester, by Stephanie McPherson (former arts editor) to pursue the open assistant editor position. He wasn't hired at first, but when the spot opened up again he reapplied and was given this great opportunity. When not at the Collegian he reads, watches movies, plays music and checks ESPN.com incessantly.

Matthew is new to The Collegian this semester, working as a photographer and assistant photo editor.

Leigh Greaney is a writing junkie from Groveland, Mass., ' a town so small all of it's residents could most likely fit in the newsroom. She is majoring in both Journalism and English wrapping herself in words on a daily basis. She wants to write for a music magazine someday, but for some reason cannot stray away from her editorial/opinion roots as of yet.

Brendan Cherry Hello to all readers! My name is Brendan Thurston Thadeus Cherry. I am a bright eyed, barrel-chested, half-wit who only uses half of his wit. Doing that math you might call me a quarter wit or more conventionally; a dim wit. All the same I am a senior and a little bit disappointed to be leaving UMass, but I am sure I will continue to visit. I am a big fan of relaxing, chilling, and kicking it. I am a journalism major and a business man. My mother thinks I am handsome and I think she’s right. I really love vacation, so much so that my dream is to own and operate a mini golf place in Jamaica or Hawaii and just live off of that sweet mini golf money. While vacationing my favorite thing to do is the lazy river and the lazier the better. My heroes include George Carlin, Josh Koscheck, and Ned Flanders. That is about all I have to say about myself. Allow me to leave you all with a haiku.
As well all wear pants, we can
not help but wonder,
do pants wear us too?
Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing!

Elyze Horowitz is a junior and a journalism major, and has always loved writing and editing. She has written for her hometown newspaper, Boston Magazine, and the Jewish Reporter. PJ Stanley , currently the sophomore Photo Editor for The Collegian, is a dual-major in neuroscience and pre-veterinary animal science. A member of Commonwealth College and an Honors Research Fellowship recipient, PJ is also an active participant in on-campus clinical and lab-based research. Though motivated academically by the hard-sciences, PJ plans to pursue photojournalism throughout life, currently as a student, and later as an international and domestic practitioner of large animal medicine. During time spent not on assignment, studying, or working with animals, PJ chooses to be outdoors - climbing, skiing, or photographing birds and other wildlife.

Matt Rocheleau is a junior double-majoring in journalism and marketing. He started as a news writer with The Daily Collegian and became an assistant news editor in fall 2008. He has also written for The Sun Chronicle in Attleboro, Mass. Matt enjoys haikus. He likes long walks on the beach. He loves A.P. Style.

Nick O’Malley went down to The Collegian at the end of fall 2007 looking to write a story to show his mom that he was at least doing one thing constructive at school and then never left. Nick, a sophomore journalism and sociology major, started in the ed/op section before writing for sports as well and then went back to ed/op to eventually be named co-editor in March 2009. Nick cannot decide what to write about as his stories have ranged from paper cups and glue sticks to field hockey and baseball. The name of Nick’s glue stick is Angelo. You may not meet Angelo.
