There are few events on campus that stir up the student body quite like Sex on The Lawn. This Wednesday, Vox: Students for Choice is hosting its fourth annual celebration.
“Vox is a pro-choice organization allied with Planned Parenthood Federation for
Magnani and other members of the Registered Student Organization (RSO) promote sexual health and reproductive rights on campus through various outreach activities.
According to Planned Parenthood’s website their organization focuses on “women’s health and well-being, based on respect for each individual’s right to make informed, independent decisions about sex, health and family planning.”
Sex on The Lawn is Vox’s biggest event and it continues to evolve and grow each year. The main goal of the event is to spread awareness and education on important sexuality-related issues in a fun and interactive way.
Vox is the same RSO that has brought other provocative events to campus like the “Vagina Monologues” and last semester’s female sexual pleasure workshop titled Get Wet. Megan Andelloux, certified sexuality educator and the featured guest speaker at Get Wet, will also be participating in Sex on the Lawn sharing her valuable advice with students on how to combine sexual health with mind-blowing pleasure. Some additional services that Andelloux professionally offers are sex coaching, private and public workshops and curriculum development for sex educators.
This sexy celebration starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the library lawn directly in front of the Student Union. Students needn’t be surprised to see balloons shaped like breasts, tables vending phallic baked goods and the ever-popular vaginal coloring book pages. For a small donation, spectators can frost and decorate their very own penis shaped cookie.
The EveryWoman and Stonewall centers will provide information about their services during the event along with other UMass programs. Event organizers are happy to provide students with informational brochures, dental dams, condoms and lubricants free of cost.
UMass Ballroom Dancers will be showing of their skills and support by performing throughout the day. Music and munchies will accompany the daylong festivities. Plan on dropping by with some friends to test your Twister talent, sex trivia knowledge or to bust open the mammoth penis piñata.
“The objective of Sex on the Lawn is to educate the community on reproductive health and rights in a fun and comfortable environment,” said Magnani. “We want students to have a great time tomorrow and we hope to shed some light on some very prevalent issues.”
